Insomnia occurs when a person finds it difficult to fall asleep or to stay asleep. People with insomnia may experience a ‘restless mind’ which can make it difficult to go to sleep. Insomnia is sometimes a result of another sleeping disorder but is still one of the most common sleep problems that majority of people face. Narcolepsy
Narcolepsy is a chronic brain disorder. Someone with narcolepsy has the uncontrollable urge to fall asleep at any time. They experience excessive daytime sleepiness, and with the uncontrolled urges, they sometimes fall asleep mid-conversation, or worse while driving. They may also go through cataplexy, a very well known symptom to narcolepsy. Cataplexy is the sudden loss of muscle control and tone while a person is still awake. The causes of narcolepsy are still unknown, but there are a variety of treatment options that can help soothe symptoms.

Circadian sleep disorder involves the imbalance of a person’s circadian rhythm. Your circadian rhythm is the ‘internal biological clock’ that regulates your sleep-wake cycle. People experience circadian sleep disorder when their internal clock doesn’t match with the outside world clock. Parasomnias is a cluster of sleeping disorders that occur during when a person in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) or transitioning into wakefulness. A person experiences movements, behaviors, emotions, perceptions, and dreams that are abnormal and involuntary. This includes sleep walking, sleep paralysis, and nightmares, just to name a few.
