Melisa A. Coaker, MA, MD-Medical Director
Dr. Coaker was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. She completed undergraduate and graduate training at Wayne State University in Detroit. She completed medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and finished her internal medicine residency and sleep medicine fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Coaker is board certified in internal medicine and sleep medicine. Her special interests include sleep disordered breathing and shift work disorder, both of which were the basis for her fellowship research. She has served on international committees and has numerous academic publications. She is experienced as past and present medical director of multiple hospital-based sleep labs. She has been featured on numerous local tv shows, broadcasts, and speaking engagements. She treats adult and pediatric patients.
A strong advocate for patients and the community, Dr. Coaker is fiercely loyal and dedicated to providing the best quality of care that is cost effective, unbiased, and meaningful. She believes in uniquely tailored and individualized approaches for all patients. She believes that an honest, trusting, compassionate, and accountable partnership with direct communication is necessary to achieve the greatest outcomes. Taking the time to listen to your concerns and treating you like a person rather than a number is of utmost importance to Dr. Coaker. She understands the complexities of healthcare and exhausts all efforts to get appropriate treatments approved by insurance. Dr. Coaker’s personal interests are cooking/baking, traveling, music, and philanthropy (with emphasis on civil rights and animal rescue).
